This temple is in the province of Bueng Kan, 21 kilometres away from downtown. It is said that this temple, previously called Wat Pa Lelai, was built by Monk Lun. However, after he passed away in 1963 (2506 BE), the temple was deserted. It wasn’t until 1974 (2517 BE) when Lord Abbot Nithed Satsanakhun (Monk Mahasaman Siripanyo) made a short visit to the area. The pleasant condition encouraged him to have consulted with his mission and the native, and later, renovated and renamed the temple as ‘Wat Ahong Silawat’, according to its vicinity of Ahong Rapid and Mekong River. The reconstruction was continuing from then, still, with a big pause from 1981-1994 (2524-2537 BE) when Monk Mahasaman joined the propagating mission to the USA.

Inside Wat Ahong Silawat is naturally decorated with greenery, thus, a perfect place for meditation and religious practice. From the temple, the deepest point of Mekong River can be observed by its vigorous flows, especially in the flood season when the huge current vortex can be clearly seen.

On January 1st, 1999, Monk Mahasaman Siriphanno invited 109 monks to perform the consecration of Phra Phutthakuwanan Satsada Buddha image. The brass image is casted in the same way as Phra Putthachinnarat – another well-recognised Buddha image – with the dimension of four-metre width, seven-metre length, and the weight of twenty tons.
